FAQs

Country-Check enables users to create risk ranking and banding reports, and features several graphical display functionalities that improve information accessibility and data interpretation. Using advanced statistical theories, Country-Check delivers country risk classifications for 244 countries and territories worldwide. Key features include:

  • Holistic Risk Definition
Country-Check leverages a broad and wide-ranging definition of jurisdictional or ‘country risk’. The system aggregates credible data sources dealing with various aspects of country risk, and also features the Criminality Factor, effectively placing it in a class of its own as a global risk index.

  • Standardised Data Usage
Data is derived from a large number of reputable online sources and fed into the system. The sophistication of the model lies in how it transforms and standardises data from varied sources into a comparable form - essentially, facilitating the comparison of otherwise incomparable factors.

  • Robust Data Structuring
A range of risk indicators are embedded in three Primary Risk Factors, namely the:
    • Political Factor
    • Financial Factor
    • Criminal Factor

These, in turn, are used to construct the Master Index. A range of specific risk indicators embedded within several dimensions exemplify the system’s holistic risk approach.

  • Fully Customisable Parameter Weighting
The Country-Check system is fully customisable to take specific industry considerations into account.

  • The adjustable weighting system enables users to increase or decrease emphasis on certain risk parameters, relative to their specific risk management needs. The user can choose to either use the emphasis suggested by World-Check or create their own emphasis based on their own expertise.Custom Weight Sets can also be saved for future use.

The Master Index's Default Weight Set is nonetheless highly recommended for new users.

  • Risk Rankings & Risk Bandings
Featuring both risk rankings and banded risk profiling, the Country-Check Master Index provides insight into the uncertainty associated with each country`s risk ranking. The banded risk profiling system’s default 5-band setting can also be adjusted to a 2-band, 3-band or a 4-band configuration. The banding system provides perspective regarding the uncertainty associated with each country’s relative risk status.

  • Uncertainty And Probability Measures
It is in this area that Country-Check’s transparency becomes most apparent. By including risk bandings, the system also provides users with access to uncertainty measures. The model is based on statistics, hence there is no ‘absolute classification’ of any country into any specific risk band.

Lebanon, for example, may be classified as Medium Risk, yet this is a simplification of the following result:
    • Very High Risk Probability : 5%
    • High Risk Probability : 21%
    • Medium Risk Probability : 45%
    • Low Risk Probability : 18%
    • Very Low Risk Probability : 11%

Hence Lebanon can be classified as ‘Medium Risk’. In actual fact, however, there is an 11% probability that it is a ‘Very Low Risk’ country. These uncertainty/probability measures are available to the user, providing a fuller view of a country’s risk landscape.

  • World-Check Research
The recommended Default Weight Set is informed by World-Check’s industry-leading risk research findings, and has withstood rigorous user testing and expert scrutiny by governance and compliance experts; Country-Check confidently recommends it as a sound point of departure for any risk rankings - regardless of industry-specific considerations.
